Driver injured when another driver tries to avoid accident

Earlier this month, the driver of a Dodge Caravan was injured when his vehicle was rear-ended in the northbound lanes of Interstate 57.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at around 8 a.m. south of East Imperial Highway.  The driver of a Toyota 4Runner was following his father, who was driving a Chevrolet Suburban,  when his father’s vehicle stopped abruptly.  The driver of the 4Runner swerved to the right to avoid hitting his father’s vehicle, and in the process, rear-ended a Dodge Caravan and hit the side of a semi-truck.

The Toyota flipped, blocking multiple lanes of traffic on the highway.  The driver of the 4Runner and his father were not injured in the accident.  However, the driver of the Dodge was taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
