Tessera sues Sony for breach of contract

Tessera Inc., a subsidiary of Tessera Technologies, Inc., announced last Friday that they have filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Sony Corporation.  The lawsuit was filed in the California State Court of Santa Clara County.

According to the lawsuit, Sony committed breach of contract, sought declaratory relief, and committed breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing.  Tessera previously filed a separate lawsuit against Sony for patent infringement.

In the contractual dispute, Tessera accuses Sony of not paying them royalties as is required under their licensee contract.  Tessera president and CEO Robert Young said of the lawsuit, “We are bringing this suit because Sony has not paid all of the royalties owed to us under the contract.”
